Eastern Connecticut State University recently released its Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester.

Eastern Connecticut State University recently held a free six-week free summer enrichment summer camp for local middleschoolers. The "Puentes al Futuro/Bridges to the Future" camp is run by Eastern's Center for Community Engagement (CCE) and offers academic instruction in math and language arts.

To be included on the Dean's List, students must have completed 12 or more credits during a semester for letter grades with at least a 3.30 quality point average. The School of Education and Professional Studies and the Graduate Division at Eastern Connecticut State University held its 12th Annual Excellence Expo May 2. The expo took place in several locations across campus, including the Student Center, Charles R. Webb Hall and the J. Eugene Smith Library.

Eastern Connecticut State University's 122nd Commencement took place at the XL Center in Hartford on May 15. In all, 1,230 undergraduates and 88 graduate students earned their degrees.

The School of Arts and Sciences at Eastern Connecticut State University recently held the 11th Annual Student Research Conference and Exhibition. The event featured research projects in the form of oral, poster, performance, and art presentations.

The ECSU Foundation's competitive scholarship awards are based on merit and, in many cases, unmet financial need. The scholarship process is coordinated by the Office of Institutional Advancement. The following local students were among the approximately 300 Eastern Connecticut State University students to receive ECSU Foundation competitive scholarships for the 2012-13 academic year:

One of the approximately 70 student clubs and organizations at Eastern Connecticut State University is Eastern's Institute of Management Accountants club. The purpose of the Institute of Management Accountants club is to provide its members with accounting expertise, opportunities, and networking experiences outside of the classroom. The club wants to encourage the professional and personal development of an individual by enhancing communication and organizational skills.

One of the approximately 70 student clubs and organizations at Eastern Connecticut State University is Eastern's Accounting Society. The purpose of the Accounting Society is to provide its members with accounting experience and opportunities outside of the classroom. Active participation in events allows students informal and formal contact with accounting professionals. The Accounting Society encourages the professional and personal development of an individual by enhancing communication and organizational skills; as well as developing a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

One of the approximately 70 student clubs and organizations at Eastern Connecticut State University is Eastern's student chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The purpose of the chapter is to increase awareness of substandard housing on campus and in the community. Members benefit from gaining community service hours, learning construction skills, traveling, enhancing their resumes, meeting friends, becoming involved in the University's community and helping families suffering from poverty.
